Ten young scientists from UPWr took part in the summer school of the SEASONED project organised by the Miguel Hernandez de Elche University in Orihuela (UMH) and coordinated by Wrocław University of Environmental Life Sciences. For five days, they learnt the ins and outs of sensory analysis, visited laboratories and local markets and discussed with representatives of leading Spanish food producers.

Creating a centre for sensory analysis of food with a focus on novel foods – this is the long-term goal of Prof. Agnieszka Kita, chair of the Discipline Council of Food and Nutrition Technology and leader of the 'Food and Health' Leading Research Team, in relation to the SEASONED project.

For the second time we have awarded diplomas and medals to the best beers taking part in the Good Beer Academy competition. Jury was headed by Rafał Kowalczyk, an international judge who emphasized a high standard of the competition where over 80 beers were evaluated.

We wanted to recreate meadows and their biodiversity destroyed by goldenrods – says Prof. Magdalena Szymura. For six years she conducted an experiment with plants that had become an inspiration for poets and a nuisance for biologists.

Prof. Mirosław Wiatkowski, head of the Department of Hydrology and Water Management, discusses how to fight floods, the effectiveness of reservoirs and floodplains, and water management planning, while Prof. Tomasz Kowalczyk from the Department of Environmental Shaping and Protection discusses the lessons we should learn from recent difficult days. Meanwhile employees of the Institute of Environmental Engineering have been conducting unique research on the Oder River since it all began.

The Doctoral School of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences is closely connected with Leading Research Groups, which leaders and members are supervisors of doctoral theses written at the school, and together with a doctoral students’ representative form the Doctoral School Council. Two years after its formation, the Doctoral School and its doctoral students are undergoing evaluation.
