Before starting work

Once you have gone through the recruitment process, received and accepted a job offer, it is time to complete the formalities.

Here are the next steps you need to follow to get started.

Occupational medicine examinations

grafika ilustracyjnaAccording to Polish law, before starting work a new employee must undergo an examination and obtain a medical report stating that there are no contraindications to work in a particular position.

  1. Preliminary examination referrals (in three copies) shall be issued to the Human Resources and Payroll Department (or, in exceptional cases, by the head of the organisational unit concerned).
  2. An employee of the Human Resources and Payroll Department will arrange a date of the medical appointment and contact you to collect the referral (room 130, 1st floor of the main building of UPWr).
  3. As far as occupational medicine is concerned, the university cooperates with the Lower Silesian Medical Centre "Dolmed" at ul. Legnicka 40. Address details of "Dolmed" are also included on the referral.
  4. IMPORTANT: Arrive for your occupational health examination at approximately 7 am, upon an empty stomach, with your identity card.

Once you have obtained a medical certificate, bring it to the Human Resources and Payroll Department.

Exemptions

There are situations in which you do not need to take a preliminary medical examination. People who:
  • have previously worked for another employer in a position with working conditions consistent with those of the position they will occupy at UPWr,
  • have a valid medical certificate, stating that there are no contraindications to work in this position,
  • the interval between previous employment and taking up employment at UPWr did not exceed 30 days.

In order to be exempted, you must present a referral for the most recent valid examination, which describes the conditions and health risks of the job.

Required documentation

Along with your medical report, the Human Resources and Payroll Department must be provided with:

  • a certificate of employment from previous employers. If you had previously been working abroad, please provide all documents confirming the time period you had worked under contract,
  • other documents confirming the time periods included in your work experience (e.g. certificate of receiving unemployment benefits), IMPORTANT - if you have a PhD – please provide a certificate of the time period of your doctoral studies (a maximum of 4 years will count for your work experience)
  • diplomas confirming your education,
