PRO-NUTRI (miR)

Project title: Innovative technology for the oral delivery of small fragments of non-coding RNA (microRNA) as an active ingredient in clinical feed additives for horses suffering from metabolic syndrome and laminitis

Duration: 01.12.2022 - 31.01.2025

Project Budget: 1 440 905,68 PLN

Project Coordinator: prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Marycz

Project Partner: International Institute of Translation Medicine

Project Partner: Medvetico GmbH

The project is co-financed by the National Center of Research and Development under INNOGLOBO Programme

contract number: INNOGLOBO/I/124/PRO-NUTRI(miR)/2022

The aim of the project is to develop a technology based on the use of small non-coding RNA as an active ingredient in clinical feed additives for horses suffering from metabolic syndrome (EMS) and laminitis. The project will allow for the development of a method of stable encapsulation of very sensitive and unstable molecules such as microRNA. As part of the project, the parameters of industrial production of the PRO-NUTRI(miR) will be developed, the bioactivity will be confirmed in in vitro and in vivo studies. Comprehensive analysis of the biofunctionality of carriers will be verified using intestinal epithelial cells and intestinal microbiota, which will allow for the selection of the formulation for clinical effectiveness tests. Animal studies will allow to verify the effectiveness of the preparation in the context of relieving the symptoms of EMS at the systemic and molecular level. The innovative formulation of the additive guarantees a new class of product that has not yet been offered by any other entity operating on the market. The high implementation potential of the developed technology results primarily from its universality, as it can be a carrier for a selected class and type of miRNA molecule.
