European University Association (EUA)

eua_002.jpgThe European University Association - EUA is an organization established in 2001 when members of the Association of European Universities (CRE) and the Confederation of European Union Rectors' Conferences decided at a conference in Salamanca to join forces and create a single body representing universities and their national associations in Europe. Today, the EUA represents more than 800 universities and national rectors' conferences in 48 European countries - such a large membership makes it a key player in the Bologna process and influences European Union policies on higher education, research and innovation.

The Association's main goals are:

  • protecting academic values, institutional autonomy, freedom of expression, fairness, diversity and justice, as well as sustainability and promoting creativity and critical thinking,
  • influencing key decision-makers at the European, national and regional levels,
  • supporting the development of institutions,
  • connecting European university leaders with partners around the world,
  • providing opportunities for its members to share best practices through participation in projects, events or webinars.

Activities and benefits of EUA participation in the network include:

  • sharing knowledge and best practices with network members,
  • cooperation in research, teaching and innovation,
  • participation in conferences, projects, research or webinars,
  • co-determining the direction of the association's influence on policy decisions in higher education and science.
