During the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2015, the representatives of 193 member states adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). 17 global goals and 169 tasks related to them were published in the “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” resolution, all of them focusing on areas of crucial importance to humanity and taking into account the right balance between the economic, social and environmental development.
Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences supports the SDGs which are directly related to the University's educational and research profile. This stems not only from the specialization – UPWr covers different areas essential to SDG, such as agriculture and different environmental protection issues related to it, food quality, functional food, strategies for combating hunger, analysis of the effects of climate change and the possibilities of minimizing them – especially by protecting water resources, promoting the idea of short supply chains, modern waste management, research on biologically conditioned social phenomena related mostly to ageing processes, or translational medicine, which is of particular interest from the perspective of civilization diseases threat.
