Bio-Based Industries Consortium (BIC)

As of 2019 UPWr is the only associate partner in Poland of an international consortium of about 200 European companies (large companies and SMEs), clusters, technology platforms, trade associations and scientific institutions. BIC represents the private sector in a public-private partnership (PPP) with the European Commission, also known as the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU).

BIC membership enhances UPWr's opportunities to participate in partnerships that span market sectors and support contemporary development policy frameworks. Participation in BIC enables UPWr to create research policies of interest to UPWr, the region and the country by, among others, participating in consultations on the Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda 2030 (SIRA2030). This is a document that defines the strategic research directions under which BBI JU initiative projects will be implemented in the next decade. The provisions of SIRA2030 are taken into account in the Working Programs (AWPs) for the following years, and consequently in the provisions of the competitions announced by BBI JU, in which Polish units, including UPWr, will be able to compete. Participation in the consultations is crucial to the next steps that are taken by the BBI JU.

Participation in the BIC identifies UPWr as a recognized partner registered on the BBI JU Partnering Platform, which is a comprehensive source of information on competition calls published by BBI JU, expert guidance on applications and profiles of institutions interested in participating in BBI JU projects.
