Specific areas of activity

In order to achieve the goals set out in the mission, nine areas of action have been designated in the form of work packages - broken down into tasks to be accomplished and milestones to be achieved. Each alliance partner is responsible for implementing one of the areas, with representatives of each university and external stakeholders (local authorities, foundations, associations) participating in the work on each area.

Through this work package, EU GREEN will design and implement curricula that lay the foundation for a challenge-based education focused on imparting competencies related to the Sustainable Development Goals. Students will be actively involved in the co-creation of these curricula, and teachers will be properly supported and trained to meet the demands and ambitions of such a transformative process.

The first stage will be the diagnosis of the alliance's educational potential, the development of an Educational Strategy with guidelines for making systemic changes in didactics and a curriculum framework with learning outcomes for sustainability and global citizenship. The next stages are the design of educational programs:

  • jointly implemented subjects,
  • short educational programs delivered jointly (including summer schools, specialized courses, including language courses),
  • joint course modules (offered as microcredentials),
  • joint degree programs (implemented at all levels, in the formula of multiple degree programs).

All degree programs will be taught in English, will be described by a set of learning outcomes, with assigned hours and ECTS points.

Creating a joint strategy for sustainable development research, support for interdisciplinary research and international research projects. The core of the package will be the creation of a Joint Research Commission, a structure that will oversee a network of six joint and interdisciplinary EU GREEN research clusters of excellence:

  1. Emerging paradigms for health and wellbeing.
  2. Agriculture, food and environmental sustainability.
  3. Engineering and technology for sustainable development.
  4. Sustainable tourism for cultural and national heritage.
  5. Education science for sustainable development.
  6. Challenges in diversity and ecosystem services.

Anna Laskowska
Krzysztof Grzymajło

The package aims to strengthen the position and influence of EU GREEN alliance universities in the region, with a focus on promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the context of sustainable development. Being firmly rooted in their regions is to be the basis for creating and strengthening networks with industrial partners. The creation of the action plan is based on two main points: new start-ups and academic spin-offs that produce sustainability-related products/services. It also takes into account the transfer of sustainability knowledge to existing companies in the region.

UPWr Coordinators:
Katarzyna Tokarczyk-Dorociak
Kornelia Kwiecińska

The package aims to create a common strategy for community engagement consistent with the concept of sustainable development. Building sustainable economies is to support the development of sustainable communities and vice versa. It will be necessary to identify practices at universities that support these ideas, establish cooperation with external partners (local authorities, NGOs) and create a platform for building community engagement based on the concept of 'citizen science', among others.

Coordinated by the University of Parma (Italy) in collaboration with UPWr.

UPWr Coordinators:
Anna Posadowska-Malarz
Katarzyna Szopka

The package focuses on increasing student and staff mobility, both in Europe and around the world (Africa, Asia and Latin America are key strategic areas for international cooperation). The package will support researchers in joint international research and students in pursuing joint degrees. Mobility is assumed to increase from the consortium average of 3% to 30%.

UPWr Coordinators:
Patrycja Krzemieniec
Katarzyna Kosek-Paszkowska

The EU GREEN Alliance aims to make access, diversity and inclusion a key pillar of the project. The work package aims to formalize action for underrepresented groups that face discrimination based on gender, age, ethnicity, beliefs, sexual orientation, disability or a combination of these factors. Our goal is to create a common policy of diversity and inclusiveness, implement 'lifelong learning' educational programs, and provide access to education for excluded groups.

Coordinated by the University of Gävle (Sweden) in collaboration with the University of Anger.

UPWr Coordinators:
Jowita Pyszczek
Beata Malczewska

The package aims to develop strategies for implementing sustainable solutions on campuses, including providing decent working conditions, reducing carbon and water footprints (sustainable transportation and nutrition). Activities within the package are aimed at students, researchers and administrative staff. The solutions developed and implemented are intended to provide a basis for expanding the scope of sustainability practices beyond the campus, into the surrounding community, and ultimately giving them a global dimension.

In this regard, the goals of the EU GREEN alliance are aligned with those of the Race to Zero for Universities and Colleges campaign, which our university joined in 2022.

Coordinated by Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg (Germany), in collaboration with the University of Extremadura.

UPWr Coordinators:
Przemysław Tymków
Piotr Gołuch

The package will develop standards for communication between partners and e-infrastructure to promote good sustainability practices, including among external partners and local communities. Activities will also include the dissemination of project results and the measurement of social impact through pre-set targets.
