The ET4D project focuses on issues related to agri-food systems supported by interconnected digital technologies, making them more transparent for consumers, farmers, and other stakeholders in the agri-food chain. The planned research is aimed at the dairy sector, as dairy cattle are a key economic pillar of the European agri-food sector. The project's goal is to develop a prototype tool for measuring environmental factors and additional parameters essential for sustainable production, addressing the need to reduce the dairy sector's impact on climate change. Another important task of the project is to raise awareness among target groups regarding business and purchasing decisions. These target groups include farmers, processors and retailers, local government representatives, other decision-making bodies, and consumers. The aim is to provide high-quality information on production in relation to social, economic, and environmental factors. This approach to aggregating and providing data on livestock systems will make the dairy production chain more transparent.

To summarize, the activities of the Polish partners in ET4D will include:

I. Conducting a Social Diagnosis – The University of Zielona Góra (UZ) will identify the information needs of selected target groups in the dairy sector and their attitudes toward adopting sustainable agricultural practices. The diagnosis aims to gather information on expectations regarding milk quality and interest in obtaining information about its production.

II. Analyzing the Functionality of the Data Management System with Embedded Sensors – This task involves the installation and maintenance of the ET4D DMS sensor system, exploring the potential of a simplified system for small farms, managing data access, demonstrating the scalability of ET4D DMS, and preliminary data processing. UPWr and UZ will select a typical small or medium-sized farm to carry out this task. UPWr will be responsible for planning, coordinating the installation and maintenance of the measurement equipment on the selected dairy farm, optimizing sensor placement, and preliminary data processing (general data quality control, selection, and transfer).

III. Developing the Foundations for the ET4D Platform – This task will support farmers in making knowledge-based decisions regarding milk production management and provide information to consumers and other stakeholders, ensuring transparency in sustainable dairy production. UZ will support partners in sensor data processing and empirical modeling. UPWr will supply measurement data.
