Scientists from the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences have secured funding for three innovative research projects to be conducted in collaboration with universities and enterprises across Europe. These projects will focus on enhancing agricultural resilience to drought, monitoring seismic activity, and improving plant-based food products.

Only the 34 best were selected out of 350 submitted projects, and Doctor Marta Kuźmińska-Bajor from the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław was among those awarded. She received a money prize in the LIDER programme for research on bacteriophages which could replace antibiotics in treating, among others, Salmonella.

Six young scientists from the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław received scholarships of the Minister of Science. In total nearly 50 million PLN has been distributed.

Paulina Strugała from the Department of Physics and Biophysics received a National Science Centre’s ”Preludium 13” grant for research on health-promoting properties of colored variety potatoes. They can have an anticancerous effect, among others.

Researchers from UPWr have obtained grants from Opus 16. They will study the metabolic pathways of Yarrowia lipolytica yeast, the interaction of soil organic matter with pesticides, resistance of birds to Shiga toxins and physicochemical and biological properties of sterol glycerides.

The collaboration of nine universities from nine countries during this time has often been a clash of cultures and mentalities, but also a space for drawing from individual experiences and solutions. Comparing our achievements to actions undertaken by other (including older) European universities, we can take pride in the effects achieved so far.
