Researchers from UPWr have obtained grants from the Sonatina 3, Sonata 14 and Miniatura 3 programs. They will study the genetics of legumes with the aim of creating new varieties, the impact of electromagnetic field on flax, how to better treat breast cancer and the use of brewer's spent grain.

Not only is the Wrocław functional area able to meet the local vegetarian food needs of its inhabitants, but it even has surpluses to share. Not all of the centres studied at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences have this capacity. The results show that European cities have a problem with self-sufficiency.

Promoting local agriculture and organic food, the FoodSHIFT 2030 project will leave behind more than the community and school gardens that have been established in Wrocław in recent years. – We can see that the community is ready to build a more local food system and we are convinced that the last 42 months of work are only the beginning of change, says Dr Małgorzata Świąder from the Institute of Spatial Management at UPWr.
