On the 23rd of November, 2011, 14 rectors and vice-rectors gathered for a Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools from Wrocław, Opole, Częstochowa and Zielona Góra attended the general audience where they awarded the Pope Benedict XVI a special scientific distinction – Academic Laurels, which was a prove of recognition of Cardinal Josef Ratzinger’s and subsequently the Pope’s scientific accomplishments.

Czech scientist to become an honorary professor

The ceremony to award the title of the honorary professor to the outstanding zoo technician and genetician Professor Václav Řehout from the university in Czech Budziejowice graced the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Biology and Animal Science, which took place on Saturday 5th November in the lecture theater of John Paul II.

A team led by Professor Maciej Ugorski was recognized by the Microbiology Committee of Polish Academy of Sciences for the best experimental work in the category of microbiology FimH protein of type 1 fimbriae in adhesion of Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium into host cells and tissues.
