The ceremony to award the title of the honorary professor to the outstanding zoo technician and genetician Professor Václav Řehout from the university in Czech Budziejowice graced the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Biology and Animal Science, which took place on Saturday 5th November in the lecture theater of John Paul II.

– The festival of this year’s graduates is very special because it takes place in this, a jubilee year, and the 60th anniversary of the faculty. Since its first graduation ceremony in 1954, nearly 11 thousand graduates have received diplomas – said Professor Andrzej Filistowicz, Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Animal Science welcoming the guests.

The central point of the ceremony was awarding the title of the honorary professor to Professor Václav Řehout, zoo technician and specialist in the field of genetics and methods of animal improvement, member of Czech and Slovak Academy of Agricultural Sciences, co- initiator and organizer of cyclical conferences “Genetic Days” in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.

The Faculty of Biology and Animal Science at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences is celebrating, together with the entire university, its 60th anniversary. It was established and the Faculty of Zootechnics, which, since 1998, has functioned under the present name. Today it is a well-known scientific and didactic center, recognized by the scientific and economic circles as well as employers. 11 thousand graduates hold the diploma of this particular faculty, and currently over 1600 people are studying in four different fields: zootechnics, biology, bioinformatics and food safety. In the academic year 2012/2013 there will be recruitment for the fifth program of study – human biology.
