During the audience Benedict XVI welcomed the rectors in Polish and thanked them for the awarded distinction, which so far has been given only to the Blessed Pope John Paul II. – I am greeting Rectors from academic schools of Wrocław, Opole, Częstochowa and Zielona Góra. I would like to express my gratitude to the Academic Laurels. I know that so far only Blessed John Paul II has received this distinction. That is why it is a special distinction for me. I truly bless the College of Rectors, academic schools representatives, their academic communities and all who are present here – said Benedict XVI.

President of Wrocław Rafał Dutkiewicz also attended the general audience. He gave the Holy Father a miniature of a monument of the Peace Cross, which is dedicated to the memory of Saint Edyta Stein – a Wrocław resident.
