From today portraits may be admired of vice-chancellors, starting with a painting presenting Prof. Stanisław Tołpa, painted by Antoni Michalak, and a portrait of Prof. Jerzy Kowalski, painted by Andrzeja Dobrzanieckiego, and also portraits of Professors Alfred Sanze, Aleksander Tychowski, Tadeusz Garbuliński, Ryszard Badura, Józef Dzieżyc, Henryk Balbierz, Bronisław Jabłoński, Jerzy Juszczak, Tadeusz Szulc and Michał Mazurkiewicz, painted by Wrocław artist Dariusz Godlewski.

A team supervised by Prof. Waldemar Rymanowicz has developed a method of more economical and efficient biosynthesis of erytrytol – a low-calorie sweetener – due to the use of the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica Wratislawia.

In the internet survey published on the internet portal Gazeta.pl students have assessed the access to qualified scientific and teaching staff, scientific publications, the comfort of studying, the level of IT on the University etc. According to students’ opinions Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences got 15th place in Poland.

On 10 April 2010 on the way to commemoration ceremony of the 70 th anniversary of the Katyn massacre the President of the Republic of Poland Mr Lech Kaczynski, the First Lady Mrs Maria Kaczynska, members of the Polish delegation and crew lost their lives.

Nearly PLN10m for New Faculties – the Department of Bioinformatics and the Department of Production Management and Engineering

The University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław will receive nearly PLN10m in funding from the European Social Fund (ESF) for the creation of new departments - Bioinformatics and Production Management and Engineering. The goal of the project is also to improve the qualifications of research and teaching staff, which means that members of our staff will be attending research training in reputable academic centers both in Poland and abroad.

At the 37th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, which took place from 1st to 5th April 2009, a team from the Institute of Animal Breeding, led by Professor Bożena Patkowska-Sokoła, won two silver medals for scientific research and a special prize from the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA).

Bioactive substances in eggs
