UPWr's success in two international rankings

Securing the top spot in Poland for Food Science & Technology in the Shanghai Ranking and clinching the second position in the industry indicator for the Veterinary Science discipline in THE WUR by subject are just a couple of examples highlighting UPWr's noteworthy successes on the global stage.

The University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław is once again among the prestigious group of universities qualified for the Shanghai Ranking and the British Times Higher Education ranking. In both rankings, the university not only maintains some positions but also advances in several indicators.

Shanghai Ranking

The GRAS Ranking, or Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, uses a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the global performance of universities in various fields, including research output (Q1), research influence (CNCl), international collaboration (IC), research quality (Top), and international academic awards (Award). This year, the Ranking includes over 1,900 universities from 104 countries and regions.

Additionally, it advances in the field of Veterinary Sciences, moving from fourth place in the country last year to the third, and from 201-300 globally to 151-200. For the first time in the history of the ranking, UPWr appears in the Agricultural Sciences category, securing a commendable sixth place in Poland and ranking 201-300 globally.

THE WUR by subject

This year, 1,059 universities from around the world participated in the THE World University Rankings by subject. The ranking distinguishes universities that are leaders in agriculture and forestry, biological sciences, veterinary sciences, and sports sciences. The overall methodology is calibrated for each subject, with weights adjusted to fit each discipline. The indicators for each subject include:

  • Teaching: learning environment (teaching),
  • Research environment: size, income, and reputation
  • Research quality: strength and impact
  • International outlook: staff, students, and research
  • Industry: revenue and patents

In this year's ranking, UPWr holds very high positions in leading disciplines at the university. In the Agriculture and Forestry and Veterinary Science (Life Sciences) categories, it ranks second in Poland in the industry indicator and third in the international outlook indicator. Results in the Geography category in the Social Sciences field look even better - UPWr takes the first place in Poland in the industry and research quality indicators and the second place in the international outlook indicator. The improvement is also reflected in the overall ranking in the Social Sciences discipline - from the sixth place in Poland, UPWr jumped to the fifth place this year.
