ShanghaiRannking's GRAS 2022 methodology – indicators and weights
The GRAS ranking bases its methodology mostly on scientific publications. Indicators taken into account are the number of research papers in journals in the first quartile (Q1), citations (Category Normalized Citation Impact - CNCI), publications in international collaboration (IC) and the number of articles in the top journals selected by respondents of the ranking GRUP survey in given subject (Top Journals in an Academic Subject – TOP). Some ranking disciplines also take into account the number of significant distinctions and awards given to academic staff of the institution – these are also selected through surveys (AWARD).
Depending on the ranking subject, different weights are assigned to each indicator. The greatest weight for most subjects, including veterinary sciences and food science and technology, is given to the Q1 and TOP indicators regarding publication quality and the CNCI, regarding citations. The least weight is given to publications in international collaborations.
All bibliometric data are obtained from Web of Science, InCites databases and converted into ranking indicators. In this year's GRAS, performance for years from 2016 to 2020 was taken into account.
