Space innovations

Thirteen contracts for carrying out projects in the space sector were signed on 28 November at the Ministry of Economy. The research will be financed by the European Space Agency. One of the distinguished projects is HORION, a project carried out by the science and industry consortium where the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław is a partner.

– The HORION project is focusing on the research of the elimination of ionospheric delay in GNSS observations. The results will be used in the SmartNet network, among others in the precise positioning, and also in troposphere modeling – says professor Bosy.

The project leader is the Leica Geosystems Polska Company and the partners–are the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław, the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and the Polytechnic University in Barcelona.

The HORION project will be carried out for two years and Marcin Puciłowski from Leica Geosystems is its main supervisor. The University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław will be represented by a team of workers from the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics led by Professor Jarosław Bosy and its members are: Doctor Jan Kapłon, Tomasz Hadaś and Kamil Kaźmierski.

The European Space Agency (ESA) was founded in 1975. It is an intergovernmental organization whose main goal is to carry out a joint European research programme and to use space. The projects conducted by the ESA are to deliver knowledge about the Earth, its direct environment and the space of our Solar System as well as the universe. They also help the development of the satellite technology and services as well as support the European industry.
