Professor Tadeusz Trziszka appointed as new Rector
He is the author of over 400 papers, including 150 original ones. He has written 15 course books and monographs. Professor Tadeusz Trziszka has been appointed as Rector of the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław.
When asked why he had become a scientist he replied briefly: – I have always liked studying thus the choice of a researcher’s path. The job of a scientist seemed interesting and exciting. From the perspective of time I may say that I was not mistaken about my adolescent assessment.
A specialist in food technology and human nutrition has focused his scientific research on the beneficial features of eggs. He managed a research programme – OVOCURA, which involved a process of isolating biomedical components from eggs, which help in the treatment and prevention of diseases. – We expected that the research would result in interesting findings but the results exceeded our expectations in a positive sense. It turned out that nature is capable of everything. It may give life and protect life also from civilization diseases, which touch us for many different reasons. An egg is the perfect material by nature – says Professor Trziszka enthusiastically, who was a vice-rector for research.
The result of the OVOCURA project was 28 patents connected with biomedical products allowing for treatment and prevention of different diseases regarding: neurodegeneration, neoplasm, central nervous system, cardiovascular system, skeletal system as well as production of medicines for paradontosis and dermatological problems.
The newly appointed Rector of the University of Environmental and Life Sciences underlines that the most important values in his life have always been honesty, respect for others and humbleness. No matter how successful you are, you cannot patronize others – says Professor Trziszka.
He cannot imagine his life without work because he even relaxes working. – When all the administrative tasks are piling up, which are very absorbing, I rest by preparing lectures or reading scientific publications. And vice versa: the effort put into scientific or teaching work is relieved by office work. Well, I simply cannot do the same things all the time – adds Professor Trziszka and admits that he has an issue with… holidays. As dolce far niente lasts for a week for him, and after such week of doing nothing he cannot bear any more of sweet laziness. Then he takes his computer, which he always brings with him, and… he continues resting by working.
– That is why I do not play truant any more. And I have to admit that I regret it because as a student I was at the opera or concert hall every week. I love classical music and opera. However, today I do not have too much time for this love – says the newly appointed Rector with a sound of regret in his voice, still he adds that this time stolen from science he devotes to reading books on spiritual development. – I am interested in the spirituality of the East, Bible interpretations, philosophical systems where a human being is the subject of the analysis. I do like reading Paulo Coehlo, who deals with these issues on a pop culture level – says Professor Trziszka.
He is trying to create KIC Food4Future, which is a European center for Knowledge and Innovation transfer “food for the future” and its collocation center at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław.
Just after being appointed to the position of Rector, Professor Trziszka said: – I can ask myself whether I am afraid of this term and making risky, often difficult decisions, which we are facing. And I can honestly answer that I am not. (…) when I was 29 years old, after defending my doctoral thesis, my father congratulated me and said that one day I would become Rector of this university, neither of us fully realized at that time what he was saying but it has just been fulfilled. If such wishes come true then I believe that my wish, which is to make this university one of the best European schools, will also come true.
