Our people in the Council of Scientific Excellence

Professor Agnieszka Kita, Professor Jacek Bania and Professor Andrzej Kotecki have been elected for the Council of Scientific Excellence (RDN). On the whole, 141 scientists were chosen representing different scientific disciplines distinguished by the Act 2.0.

In a secret vote, the Senate of UPWr recommended three scientists from our University as candidates for the Council of Scientific Excellence. Professor Jacek Bania was nominated as a representative of veterinary sciences, Professor Agnieszka Kita – technology of food and nutrition and Professor Ewa Łukaszewicz – animal sciences and fishing. Professor Andrzej Kotecki’s candidacy was submitted by the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn as a representative of agriculture and horticulture.

30th April marked the end of voting for all candidacies submitted from all places in Poland. In the end, the academics selected 141 people, among whom there are three scientists linked with UPWr – Jacek Bania, Agnieszka Kita and Andrzej Kotecki. According to the website of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, there were 28 thousand professors and PhDs with post-doctoral degrees entitled to vote, and the turnout reached 63%.

The Council’s mission will be to ensure the highest standards of academic work required for attaining academic degrees, art degrees and professor titles. It will eventually replace the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles with respect to the supervision over individual promotion processes. The RDN will consist of three representatives of each discipline. Its first term begins on June 1st 2019.

The composition of the Council was determined by an election in which all academics with post-doctoral degree or a professor title had a right to participate. There were over 28 thousand entitled to vote and over 18 thousand voted. A person entitled to vote within a particular discipline could choose maximum three candidates. The election started on 12th April 2019 and lasted till 30th April. Voting was only possible through the RDN electronic election system.
