The ECOpicnic, organized by the Student Government of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, is now behind us. The organizers, in collaboration with the Student Governments of the Faculties of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, and the Faculty of Biology and Animal Sciences, created an event full of pro-ecological initiatives that entertained and educated.
The picnic started with a waste collection campaign, which garnered significant interest. Participants set out across the campus to collect trash, and in exchange for each bag of waste, they received plant seedlings. The large tire they found became a symbol of their commitment to environmental care.
Next on the agenda were vermicomposting workshops, where participants learned how to create vermicomposters themselves, producing fertile compost known as "the gardener's gold."

The Academic Business Incubator of UPWr prepared communication workshops for the participants.
An exciting part of the picnic was the UPWr Flanki Championships. Among the nine teams, the best performers were: "team speluno," "tactical flank gang," and "title defenders."
Participants of the ECOpicnic also had the chance to take part in competitions organized by the Academic Sports Association of Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, such as timed hang and ergometer racing. The results of the sports competitions were as follows:
Ergometer Race:
Men: 1. Franciszek Józef, 2. Adrian Feliciak, 3. Maks Bernaś Women: 1. Anna Malik, 2. Nikola Joya, 3. Julia Ratajczak
Hand strength competition:

A treasure hunt organized by student scientific circles also attracted great interest, where participants could solve puzzles related to, among others, a world-conquering fungus.
Thanks to the help of the Three Sisters, a clothing swap point was organized, where participants could bring clothes in good condition and exchange them for others. This initiative was well received, promoting the idea of sustainable fashion.
The event was enriched by performances from artists of the informal group Młoda Scena, who provided the musical backdrop for the picnic, creating a unique atmosphere.

Of course, the event wouldn't be complete without communal grilling and free snacks. A spontaneous Belgian dance added a joyful and energetic touch to the picnic, engaging everyone present.
– Thanks go to the Department of Horticulture for providing seedlings as rewards for collecting waste, Ekosystem for collaborating on the campus cleaning campaign, and WP8 from the EU GREEN project for helping organize the workshops and cleaning actions – say the organizers.
Dr. Cécile Neuvéglise from the French National Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE), Doctor Honoris Causa of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, speaks about the possibilities and secrets of yeast, bioinformatics in biotechnology, and the future of French vineyards.
The START scholarship is awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science to outstanding young scientists for their innovative research. Among this year's laureates are Dr. Paweł Tomczyk and Dr. Igor Turkiewicz from UPWr.
