Biocervin: news from the world

Biocervin is a unique, world scale project thus the scientists working on it present it at the biggest international conferences.

Biocervin: “Creating prototypes of medical products based on materials generated from antler stem cells” is one of the most important projects in which the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław participates. The project started in November 2013 and plans to finish in March 2016. Scientists from Stem Cells Spin, S.A. also take part in it.

The stem cells are currently used in the treatment of many kinds of diseases and injuries. These are most often living cells obtained from the patient’s bone marrow or fat tissue, however, the length of time needed for the multiplication of these cells limits the possibility of their use. This problem may be solved by using stem cells obtained from growing antlers of the Red Deer. They may provide a solution to problems in current regenerative medicine.

Eight hundred participants from over 40 countries took part in the conference. One hundred-fifty speakers presented their work and there were 250 works displayed in the poster session. The results of the research carried out at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław aroused a lot of interest among the conference participants and were published in the supplement of a prestigious world magazine covering regenerative medicine – Regenerative Medicine.

Dr Agnieszka Noszczyk-Nowak presented the results concerning the impact of the stem-cell homogenate on the parameters of intracoronary conduction in swine, Doctor Grzegorz Sapikowski – its application in stomatology and dermatology on the dog model, Doctor Artur Niedźwiedź – in horses from RAO, Doctor Marcin Wrzosek – in swine with injuries of the spinal cord and Professor Józef Nicpoń presented its impact of the homogenate on the morphological and biochemical parameters of blood and the cerebrospinal fluid in swine.

All the presentations from the scientists from Wrocław aroused a lot of interest and a wave of questions. Doctor Niedźwiedź and Doctor Wrzosek received awards for the best presentations. Professor Nicpoń (the impact of the zearalenon on reproduction of wild boars) and Doctor Krzysztof Rypuła (Chlamydia suis infection and its impact on swine reproduction) presented their work in the poster session in Thailand.
