The Kiplin challenge „Get Active" – fostering wellness and connectivity across European universities

In an innovative initiative that marries technology with physical fitness, the University of Angers has unveiled the "Get Active" challenge, an event set to sweep across the academic landscape of the European Union. Scheduled to run from April 8th to April 28th, 2024, this connected sports challenge is not just a call to action against sedentary lifestyles but also a testament to the spirit of unity and competitive camaraderie among the EU GREEN Alliance universities.

Developed as part of the sustainable and healthy campus initiative by the EU GREEN Alliance, the "Get Active" challenge is a response to the increasingly sedentary lifestyle prevalent in modern society. Through the Kiplin mobile app, the University of Angers invites students and staff to engage in a friendly competition aimed at promoting physical activity and sustainable mobility.

The challenge casts a wide net, bringing together six partner universities from across the EU GREEN Alliance, including institutions from Portugal, Romania, Germany, Spain, and Ireland, including the UPWr. Participants are set to embark on a journey that tests their physical strength and fosters a sense of unity among diverse educational communities.

How It Works

The rules of the game are simple yet designed to encourage maximum participation. Participants form teams of up to five members and earn points through walking. The more they walk, the higher their team climbs on the leaderboard. The point system is tiered to reward every step taken, making every movement count towards the collective goal.

Scoring Mechanism:
1 point for each of the first 10,000 steps
0.5 points for steps numbered 10,001 to 20,000
0.1 points for any step beyond 20,000

This inclusive scoring system ensures that every participant can contribute to their team's success regardless of their fitness level.

Take part in the challenge!

The "Get Active" challenge is more than just a step-counting competition. The Kiplin app will feature interactive challenges and quizzes to keep engagement levels high and provide opportunities for bonus points. A dedicated messaging system within the app ensures seamless communication among team members and with the wider participant community.

The challenge culminates in the announcement of winners across three categories: individual, team, and university.

Participation is streamlined through the Kiplin app, with specific instructions for both Android and iPhone users to integrate step-counting features. An access code provided by the University of Angers ensures a secure and exclusive entry into the challenge.

The "Get Active" challenge is more than a sporting event; it's a movement towards a healthier, more connected academic community. It exemplifies how technology can be harnessed to promote wellness, foster community spirit, and bridge geographical divides.
