Professor Jarosław Bosy is the new Rector of UPWr
Professor Jarosław Bosy, the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations, has become the new Rector of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. His term begins on 1st September 2020.
On June 19, 2020, the electoral college, made up of representatives of the entire academic community, chose the Rector of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences. The new Rector is prof. Jarosław Bosy, who, since 2016, has been the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations.
In the second round of the election prof. Jarosław Bosy received 100 votes (50.5%) and prof. Krzysztof Kubiak got 97 votes (49%). One elector abstained (0.5%).
The new Rector begins his 4-year term on 1st September 2020.

Prof. Jarosław Bosy He was born on July 31, 1963. He graduated from Wrocław University of Agriculture in 1988. He obtained doctoral degree in technical sciences in 1996 at AGH in Kraków. In 2006 he received the degree of doctor habilitated at AGH in Kraków. In April 2008 he was employed as Associate Professor. He served as Deputy Director of the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics in 2009-2012 and Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Geodesy in 2012-2016. In April 2014, he received nomination for Full Professorship from the President of the Republic of Poland. Since December 2015 he has been a Full Professor at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics. Since September 2016, he has been the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations. He conducts scientific research related to precise development of GNSS satellite observations for the purposes of monitoring the Earth and its atmosphere as part of the GGOS Global Geodetic Observing System. He has done foreign internships and scientific missions in Greece, Switzerland and Italy. He has managed and currently manages 8 grants from the State Committee for Scientific Research (KBN), Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW), the National Science Centre (NCN) and the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR), H2020. He actively participated in the COST ES 625 action called: 3D Monitoring of Active Tectonic Structures and COST ES 1206 action called: Advanced Global Navigation Satellite Systems tropospheric products for monitoring severe weather events and climate (GNSS4SWEC). He coordinated two European Space Agency (ESA) grants from the side of UPWr. In 2006-2008 he was the head of the project financed by the European Union: Multifunctional precise satellite positioning system ASG-EUPOS, implemented by the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography in Warsaw, for the implementation of which he received the 2010 Honorary Award of Merit for Geodesy and Cartography. He has authored or co-authored a total of 90 original works. His current bibliometric data (h-index, citations) are: Scopus: 12, 477; WoS: 12, 436; Google Scholar: 19, 1298. He is a member of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU). Since 2012 he has been a member and since 2016 the vice-chairman of the Committee on Geodesy of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is a well-known expert assessing: national research projects in the National Science Centre panels (he has chaired the panels twice) and international H2020 projects for the European Research Council (ERC, member of panel PE10) as well as the European GNSS Agency (GSA). He has reviewed multiple projects for Austrian (FWF) and German (DFG) grant agencies. |
