Lecture series on Pharmacognosy and Metabolomics by Professor Sándor Gonda from the University of Debrecen.
The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology would like to cordially invites you to the lectures that will be delivered by Professor Sándor Gonda.
Meetings:
- Pharmacognosy and phytotherapy of plants. Folk medicine usage, pharmacology and possible therapeutic uses of natural compounds – the lecture will be held on Monday (March 6th) at 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm in the room V W (Clinics, building B2, 47 Grunwaldzki Square).
- A brief introduction to metabolomics. Techniques, prerequisites, the place of metabolomics in systems biology. How to upgrade your bioanalytic workflow to metabolomics? Common pitfalls, data visualization and interpretation issues. A case study in multi-omics – the lecture will be held on Tuesday (March 7th) at 9:15 am - 10:45 am in the room VI W (Clinics, building B3, 49 Grunwaldzki Square).
- Introduction to academic and research activities at the Department of Botany, University of Debrecen, Hungary – the lecture will be held on Tuesday (March 7th) at 11:15 am - 12:30 pm in the room VI W (Clinics, building B3, 49 Grunwaldzki Square).

About the lecturer:
Sándor Gonda graduated as a pharmacist at the University of Debrecen and subsequently finished his PhD in biology in 2011, which focused on the impact of plant-associated fungi on natural product stability in the plant drug of Plantago lanceolata. Later, his interest turned towards plant metabolomics as well as endophytic fungi of medicinal plants and their interactions with plant specialized metabolites. His work currently focuses on these interactions with a special emphasis on glucosinolates and their downstream products, using Brassicaceae crops as plant models. The core methodology of these studies is untargeted plant metabolomics recently amended with high throughput sequencing. Sándor currently works as an associate professor at the University of Debrecen, Department of Botany.
