IGSM 2013

For the first time in seven years, the meeting was once again held in Poland. And this time, the host city was Wrocław. IGSM is an international event allowing the exchange of experiences, as well as defining trends for the scientific development in the fields of geodesy, cartography and geoinformatics. Established 25 years ago, the event has had a long history and it is managed by the International Geodetic Student Organization (IGSO), which is made up of 86 universities from 29 countries.

– IGSM is an annual meeting of the International Geodetic Student Organization (IGSO), which promotes the development of cooperation between students of geodesy, cartography and geoinformatics departments from all over the world – said Joanna Nowakowska, the meeting’s organiser. – the meeting creates the opportunity for the exchange of experiences, but it is also a unique chance to learn about cultures and customs from other countries. It brings not only professional benefits, but also favourable conditions for socialising and relationship building – she added.

The meeting, hosted by the students of Geodesy and Cartography of the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław, gathered 160 students from 16 European countries. The geodesists met in Wrocław for the first time in the IGSM’s history .

The meeting’s programme included lectures given by workers from the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław, along with presentations and poster sessions prepared by students from both Polish and foreign universities. The participants presented the results of their scientific work, as well as reporting the activities of the geodesy student’s associations from their universities. The meetings ran until 24th May.
