Honorary Professor of a Ukrainian University

On 1st September during the opening ceremony of a new academic year at the National University of Kiev, Professor Alina Wieliczko, vice-rector for International relations and regional cooperation, received the title of Honorary Professor.

The distinction was approved by the University Senate and was awarded on the request of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

In her speech, Rector Wieliczko expressed her gratitude for this honorable title and invited all Ukrainian students to Wrocław, emphasizing the newest intergovernmental agreement. 100 Ukrainian students will come to Poland this year based on this agreement. She also noted that the “Now Wrocław” program was being carried out.

“For this new academic year I wish all students and employees a peaceful and successful year full of opportunities for the accomplishment of plans and noble intentions,” said Professor Wieliczko to the gathered academic circle from the National University of Kiev. “I wish the Ukrainian nation such longed-for freedom,” she added at the end of her speech.

The University in Kiev is currently one of the leading educational, scientific and cultural institutions in the Ukraine. It is well recognized internationally and it collaborates with many scientific centers not only in Europe.

The University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław has collaborated with the National University of Kiev for 12 years. Since 2002, twenty young research workers have been doing internships at the university within the scope of a scholarship program under Professor Stanisław Tołpa.

The first agreement about bilateral collaboration was signed in 2006. It allowed for exchanges of research workers, students and doctoral students as well as participation in scientific conferences, workshops and seminars. In 2013, the collaboration was extended by student training for students from the Veterinary Medicine Faculty. In June 2014, the Distant Learning Center of the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław signed another collaboration agreement with the Faculty of Information Technologies and Economic Cybernetics.

The Ukrainian school is a contact point for the Horizons 2020 program – ”Climate and Effective Use of Resources (Including Raw Materials)” and ”Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, Marine Research and Bio-economy.”
