Geocomposites – an opportunity for farmers and plant lovers

Modern technologies support plant vegetation – characteristic features of geocomposites will be discussed on Tuesday 31st March by the scientists who created them. Practical uses of geocomposites will be presented during the conference.

Geosynthetics are polymers used in construction engineering, whose task is to minimize technical problems resulting from natural conditions. They include, among others, geocomposites used for soil drainage, escarpment sealing and protection.

Geocomposites can be used in anti-erosion protective solutions for earth structures, cultivation and nurturing of decorative plants, plants in green areas, forests and in the cultivation of berry plants. Water absorbing geocomposites help to save water and support plant growth.

The project is conducted within the scope of the Innovative Economy Operational Programme co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and is being carried out by a consortium of the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław, which is a leader and initiator, the University of Technology in Wrocław and the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas in Katowice. The success of the project is proven by numerous awards and distinctions awarded to our scientists.

Doctor Daniel Garlikowski from the Institute of Environmental Engineering received an award from the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding inventing achievements in 2014 on the international stage, which was awarded at the 22nd Gala of Inventors. Last year geocomposites got the Grand Prix award in the INFRAEKO 2014 competition for the best product solution, technology, implementation and realized investment during the 4th International Science-Technical Conference on “Modern cities, Infrastructure and Environment” in Cracow. In May 2014 during the 25th International Exhibition of invention, innovation and technology ITEX 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Doctor Krzysztof Lejcuś received a gold medal for the invention of the geocomposites and an award for the best foreign invention winning over 300 other solutions from Europe and Asia.
