Center for Knowledge and Innovation – Food4Future

In the middle of the month, 14th-15th March, the first meeting took place in Budapest, initiated by the European FoodBest Platform, to locate the colocation centres. The plan forecast the creation of six centres, taking into account the consortiums of Western European countries. Polish endeavours undertaken by among others, Minister Prof. Andrzej Babuchowski, as well as a meeting of the Polish initiation group with FoodBest President, Dr. Jan Maat organised in Wrocław, resulted in the Polish delegation being invited to take part in the first session of KIC Food4Future.

– At first the plan included the creation of six centres, but after our campaign the plan predicts seven centres – said Prof. Tadeusz Trziszka, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, after the meeting. – Polish determination was a very significant element in the process of taking the decision to create the seventh KIC Food4Future colocation centre in Wrocław. It will be supervised by the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław. It will be one of the most prestigious Polish achievements, which will generate financial incomes in the long term as well as resulting in a high quality of research and transferal of knowledge into the industry – he added.

At the inaugural meeting of representatives of science world and food industry companies from Western Europe, which took place in Budapest, Poland was represented by Prof. Tadeusz Trziszka from the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław, Dr. Monika Rzepecka, a representative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Jerzy Wierzbicki, President of the Polish Association of Beef Cattle Producers and a representative of the Polish Federation of Food Industry. The delegation emphasised the great potential of the Polish agriculture and food industry, and also showed their support for the initiative undertaken by the government.

It is also of note that Poland’s areas of responsibility in the program of building KIC Food4Future were defined during the meeting of the Polish initiative group, which took place on 11th March 2013 at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław, with Dr. Jan Maat, the coordinator for the FoodBest consortium.
