Professor Roman Kołacz awarded former Rectors: Prof. Tadeusz Garbuliński, Prof. Ryszard Badura and Prof. Michał Mazurkiewicz with “roses without thorns”. These were glass figurines prepared by Prof. Zbigniew Horbowy from the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. The awards were given in recognition of their outstanding vision and development of the University.

In celebration of his 90th birthday, Professor Tadeusz Garbuliński received a Merit Medal of the City of Wrocław. This was awarded by the President of Wrocław Rafał Dutkiewicz and was granted at the request of the City Council. This award was given in recognition of Professor Garbuliński’s considerable services to Wrocław, and was presented by Dr. Jacek Ossowski – President of the Council.

Many people at the ceremony were awarded with departmental medals, awards and distinctions. The Jubilee celebrations were held under the patronage of Professor Barbara Kudrycka – Minister of Science and Higher Education.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine formally began offering courses on 1 November 1945 as one of the faculties of Wrocław University and the University of Technology in Wrocław. There were 18 departments at that time and classes for its 15 students began on 21 November 1945. The Wrocław Department comes from the Lwow academic environment, primarily the Academy of Veterinary Medicine in Lwow. The first Dean and founder of Wrocław Veterinary Medicine was Professor Zygmunt Markowski. In 1951 the faculty was merged into the newly formed Higher Agricultural School in Wrocław as the Veterinary Faculty, and its former title (The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) was restored in 1989.
