Recruitment for BioLAB 2023-24 Program

The Polish-American Fulbright Commission invites male and female students, including doctoral students, in the biological and chemical sciences, biophysical sciences and medical sciences to apply to the BioLAB 2023-24 Program. The call for applications runs until February 1, 2023.

The BioLAB Program provides an opportunity for a one-year research internship in a laboratory located at one of four institutions in the US:

  • University of Virginia, Charlottesville
  • University of Chicago, Chicago
  • University of Texas: Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas
  • Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Oklahoma City

During the internship, male and female students conduct independent research in state-of-the-art laboratories under the supervision of qualified mentors. The results of their research are often published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In addition, they actively participate in the life of an American university, attend seminars, guest lectures and learn about American culture. In some cases, they also have the opportunity to use their research results for their master's/doctoral thesis at their home university.

Participation in the Program includes:

A stipend of ~,000 - ,000, depending on the cost of living, in some cases including travel reimbursement
Full medical insurance
Assistance in obtaining an F-1 or J-1 visa to stay in the U.S. (the cost of obtaining the visa is covered by the student)
Preparation for departure conducted by Fulbright Commission staff and program alumni and graduates
Care during the stay on the program offered by the host institution

You can apply for an internship under the BioLAB Program if:

  • Meet the requirements for an F-1 or J-1 visa
  • Are studying a biological-chemical, biophysical or medical field of study and related fields
  • Will be master's or doctoral students at a Polish university or research unit at the time of the interviews and will maintain active student status during the internship
  • Have obtained a high average in the course of studies (recommended average - 4.0 or higher)
  • Have a good command of the English language, especially in scientific terminology
